Henry shoved his hands in the pockets of his khaki shorts. “I was thinking maybe we could go together.”

  “You mean like a date?”

He bit his big bottom lip, tilted his head. “Kind of? That is if you’re not embarrassed to be seen with me.”

  “Henry.”

  “Sawyer.”

“Who is it?” My dad came around the corner. Skidding to a stop, a surprise on his face. “Henry.”

  “Dr. Montgomery,” Henry nodded.

“Good to see you’re doing well.”

“As well as I can,” He shrugged. “Just stopping by to see if Sawyer wants to go to a party with me.”

“Are you going to be drinking?”

  “Nah.”

  “Good answer.”

I gaped up at my dad. He said, “What are you waiting for? Go on.”

  “But …”

“I got clean up, you go have fun.”

I tossed on my sandals and followed Henry to his car. “I thought you hated me.”

“Why would I hate you?” He asked as he climbed into the driver’s side, folding in his long legs.

  “Because everything that happened.”

He cranked the engine, stopped and turned toward me. “I hear you and Trey hadn’t been together for months.”

“We’re still friends, but that’s it.”

“So, what I’m thinking is, we start over. This is from scratch, a clean slate.”

  “Okay but …”

“Don’t over think. Just do. There was some crazy stuff that happened, though some of it was our fault, not all. High school is over, this is a new beginning.” He took my hand in his, threading his fingers through mine.

  “A new beginning.” I said.

  This time would be better.

  This time I wouldn’t forget.

  Acknowledgements

First I’d like to thank all of my readers who have been asking me for the last two years when that next book was going to come out. It may have been slow, but, the asking did help encourage me to keep going. Also need to thank my beta readers, Reese Petruska, Joanna Eddleblute, Cassy Morrow, and my mom. Another thank you to Michele Coleman for not only editing, but also always encouraging me to keep going when I need it. A special mention to my niece, Ella Keffer and my daughter Brooklyn Camp who have been wanting to read this since I mentioned the idea to them last fall. Brooklyn is also the cover model.
